Bridal shower game No. 14 · Free

The Nearly-Wed Game

He answered already. Will she say the same?

The Newlywed Game is the most-requested couple game at any shower, and the partner does not need to be there for it. Before the party, send them the questions and type their answers into the editor. On the day, each question goes up on the big screen, the bride answers live from her phone, and every guest bets on whether the two of them will match. Then both answers appear side by side and the host calls it. It is the game people talk about afterwards.

How to play

Three steps
  1. 1

Before the party, send her partner the questions and type their answers into the question editor. Only questions with an answer get played.

  2. 2

A question goes up on the big screen. The bride types her answer on her phone while every guest bets: will they match, or won’t they?

  3. 3

Both answers appear side by side. The host calls match or no match, the right bets score a point, and the couple’s tally runs across the game.

Hosting tips

From real showers
  • Get the partner’s answers a few days early and write them in exactly as sent. The wording is half the comedy.
  • Call the match generously. “Pizza” and “the pizza place on Main” is a match; the room will tell you when it is not.
  • Save the best question for last. “Who fell in love first?” ends the game on a good note whichever way it goes.

Questions

Answered
Does the partner need to be at the party?

No. That is the point of this version. They answer ahead of time, and the answers are typed into the editor so they only appear at the reveal.

Can I play it with the built-in questions?

The questions are included, but the answers cannot be: they come from her partner. Fill them in with the question editor and the game unlocks in the lobby.

How is it scored?

Guests bet match or no match on every question and score a point for a right bet. The couple gets their own tally, matched out of the questions played, on the final screen.
